Catering with a kick

#culinarycologne ambassador: Jutta Kirberg

Jutta Kirberg spent many years on the road as caterer to countless German and international stars. Now her company, Kirberg Catering, has put down roots in the Flora botanical gardens of her home city, Cologne. At “Dank Augusta”, the Kirberg tradition of innovative and unconventional catering lives on.
For her creative ideas, culinary intuition and dedication, we hereby award Jutta Kirberg the title of “#culinarycologne ambassador”.

What does Culinary Cologne mean to you?

Culinary Cologne provides a platform to talk about the diversity of Cologne’s restaurant and catering scene and thus to showcase the city as a great place to live. It has much more to offer than the ever-popular brewery pubs for which it is so well-known. For instance, there are currently 11 (!) one-star Michelin restaurants in Cologne – more than ever before. And the city is full of new types of eatery, enriching our daily lives.
That’s why we’ve supported Cologne Tourist Board’s “Culinary Cologne” spotlight campaign from the very start. We at Kirberg Catering are delighted to be playing an active role – not only as an eatery and a caterer but also as an ambassador.

What makes your culinary concept special?

We love helping to make events unique. Part of that means listening carefully to our clients to get an idea of how they tick and what they’re looking for. And we don’t start developing our ideas until we’re sure we’ve understood what they want. We gather inspiration and we think about how we can give every catering package that special “Kirberg kick”. Because that’s what makes us stand out from the rest, that’s what our clients like so much. Theme, style, location, food – everything has to fit together, right down to the tiniest detail. When our clients’ response is “Wow!”, we know we’ve got it right.

Why did you choose Cologne? And how has the city influenced you from a culinary point of view?

I was born in Cologne and I used to enjoy coming back during the many years in which Kirberg Catering toured with German and international stars. In the end, I decided to stay.

How do you think Cologne can progress in terms of its culinary offering? How could that be achieved?

Throughout the city, there’s a real sense that innovative concepts are developing – places with a no-fuss style that still manage to captivate and ooze the local joie de vivre. As Culinary Cologne ambassadors, we can communicate that much more confidently through all the available channels. Just like Berlin and Copenhagen do.
I’m confident that it will also motivate the food scene to be a bit more innovative. Here and there, more appreciation for quality would be good too, as would fewer rules and restrictions to open up more possibilities.

Culinary Cologne

Culinary Cologne is Cologne Tourist Board’s current spotlight campaign, focusing on the city’s multifaceted culinary offering. As part of the campaign, we’re honouring representatives of Cologne’s food business sector who make a significant contribution to the city’s food scene.
