Museum Night 2016: Art mania in Cologne
Exhibitions, DJ sets, an after-show party at Museum Ludwig – 29 October is when 47 museums, art studios large and small and previously hidden off-spaces open their doors to the 17th edition of Cologne Museum Night. Between 7 pm and 2.59 am, choose from 200 events to put together your very own programme! One ticket is valid for all participating venues as well as for the shuttle bus, which covers various routes. The choice is so extensive that even StadtRevue’s Museum Night team is finding it difficult to make a selection –but they’ve been kind enough to help us to help you. Here are their highlights:
Ambient and cloud sounds surrounded by Roman walls? That’s less bizarre than it sounds, as Cologne duo dyrtbyte can prove. Flanked by excavated Roman ruins, they will perform a live set created specially for Museum Night, with images projected onto the surrounding brickwork. This event is not to be missed.

Last chance! For one night only, artrmx has brought back the photo exhibition “Bewegung im Blick“ to Atelierzentrum Ehrenfeld. This is a unique insight into Cologne’s exceptionally vibrant nightlife, cityscape and squatter culture of the 1970s and 80s.

Slip on your dancing shoes and head over to Nutrospektif’s dance-off. No matter what your dancing style, come and be challenged by a sound artist’s spontaneous ideas. Improvisation is the name of the game – and at the end of the night the audience will select the winning dancer.
Where: An der Rechtschule, 50667 Cologne
Hiss, beep, bang – it’s a whole new language and you’re being invited to speak it. Sound installations and interactive instruments, like Erwin Stache’s fascinating “washing machine programme disc orchestra”, will draw you in from the very first sound. And that’s just one of many open studios in this multi-storey artists’ house. The motto of the night? Experimental, weird and wonderful.
Where: Bayenstraße 28, 50678 Cologne
Quartier am Hafen
40 open studios, groovy dance performances and even a fully interactive dance workshop for the audience: this is an insider tip for anyone looking for an alternative to the after-show party. Background tunes are supplied by Ensemble Garage and the two Cologne-based virtuoso DJs Gregor Schwellenbach and Vimes’ Julian Stetter.
Where: Poller Kirchweg 78-90, 51105 Cologne
Museum of East Asian Art
It already offers several guided tours for families as well as readings – now the Museum for East Asian Art has also joined our growing kids’ programme. Young visitors aged eight and up are invited to come to the art studio and create their own lanterns, bringing some cheer to the cold, dark season.
Where: Universitätsstraße 100, 50674 Cologne
Who said that Ebertplatz was a no-go area? Nonsense! Here in the heart of the Nordstadt, there are art studios galore. Four young ateliers will open their doors to show experimental projects and engage in an active dialogue with visitors and other artists. Local drinks and the unmistakeable sound of Ebertplatz will provide the backdrop.
