Street food has been a “hot trend”, quite literally, for some time now. The likes of pulled pork, banh mi and Thai pasta have almost completely ousted conventional fast food from the table. Street food markets are now a staple of the food scene in many cities around the world – including Cologne. The people of Cologne tend to be quite partial to their own local fare so it comes as no surprise that regional dishes take top billing on some of the menus at our street food markets. The result is a smorgasbord that includes wild garlic sausage from the neighbouring Eifel region, Eifel beef steak burgers and Cologne-brewed ginger ale as well as an array of international delicacies.
Street Food Festival Köln
A permanent fixture in Cologne, the Street Food Festival in the Ehrenfeld district or the lakeside summer festival at Fühlinger See is guaranteed to make a street foodie’s heart beat faster. There are dozens of stalls with samples to try, sausages a-sizzling, fair trade coffee, battered Oreo cookies and a whole range of takeaway food. Just remember to get there early and forget about breakfast!
