Cologne locals have a saying: ‘Home is where the Dom is’. We love Cologne’s famous cathedral as much as we love our own homes! Luckily, in Cologne interior design fans have everything they need right on their doorstep, from the familiar destinations for furniture and living accessories to independent shops with all the latest trend-setting home décor. Here’s a list of some of the best places for interior design to be found in Cologne.
Exquisit
In a large hall in a run-down courtyard in the Ehrenfeld district is where Exquisit can be found selling furniture with masses of history and character. Industrial chic lamps, tables, chairs and storage pieces are decorated with old apothecary flasks and historical maps. I love it here – it’s like a vintage paradise on Earth!

GRANIT
GRANIT, located on Ehrenstrasse, sells beautiful, timeless living accessories from Sweden. You won’t find any bright colours here, at least when it comes to the furniture and accessories, which are either black, white or made of wood. But the plants, teas and jams help to brighten up the place. The GRANIT shop in Cologne is the Swedish company’s first foray into Germany. They chose Ehrenstrasse because it reminded them of the famous Götgatan street in Stockholm, which I reckon is a fantastic compliment!

HOW WE LIVE is the prettiest interior design shop in the Rathenau quarter. It almost exclusively stocks furniture and living accessories from Scandinavia, with many products available to take home right away, from vases and cushions to shelves and tables. HOW WE LIVE has found the perfect mix of high quality and affordable design.

SCHEE is really an online shop that sells fine art prints and screen prints by young artists. Their online business has been so successful that they decided to open a shop in Cologne’s Belgian Quarter. After all, if you buy a picture, the chances are that you will also want some cushions, throws, plants and other knick-knacks to beautify your home. SCHEE is packed with gorgeous home ideas.

Utensil is no conventional interior design shop. Based in a former butcher’s shop in the Ehrenfeld district, owner Anna has tapped into a trend with her range of products inspired by industrial chic, such as conical flasks turned into vases – simple, functional and stylish all at the same time!
