Street food and markets in Cologne

Street food has been a “hot trend”, quite literally, for some time now. The likes of pulled pork, banh mi and Thai pasta have almost completely ousted conventional fast food from the table. Street food markets are now a staple of the food scene in many cities around the world – including Cologne. The people of Cologne tend to be quite partial to their own local fare so it comes as no surprise that regional dishes take top billing on some of the menus at our street food markets. The result is a smorgasbord that includes wild garlic sausage from the neighbouring Eifel region, Eifel beef steak burgers and Cologne-brewed ginger ale as well as an array of international delicacies.

Street Food Festival Köln

A permanent fixture in Cologne, the Street Food Festival in the Ehrenfeld district or the lakeside summer festival at Fühlinger See is guaranteed to make a street foodie’s heart beat faster. There are dozens of stalls with samples to try, sausages a-sizzling, fair trade coffee, battered Oreo cookies and a whole range of takeaway food. Just remember to get there early and forget about breakfast!

meet & eat Markt Köln

The “meet & eat market”, small but centrally located on Rudolfplatz square in the heart of Cologne, has become something of an institution. Held between 4 and 9 pm every Thursday, it attracts locals and tourists alike who come here to eat, drink and be merry. There’s a wide range of products, with lots of stalls selling street food as well as stalls that have locally made goods to buy.

LADEN EIN

LADEN EIN is the first permanent pop-up restaurant where the menu changes every fortnight – as well as the chefs, waiters and the entire concept! Formerly a butcher’s shop, it’s been transformed into an urban outlet with a green jungle on the wall, a cosy seating area and mouth-watering, ever-changing meals.

+++ Unfortunately, LADEN EIN is closed +++

Der Kölner Frühstücksmarkt

As everyone knows, Sunday is the best day for a lavish breakfast – and that’s why Clubbahnhof Ehrenfeld regularly hosts the Cologne breakfast market. Coffee roasters, bakers, juice producers, butchers and pastry chefs help create a relaxed breakfast experience with local flair and a wide range of culinary delicacies. It’s no coincidence that breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day and this is the place to celebrate Sunday breakfast in all its glory with family and friends.
